Let's Talk: Membership

Today I've brought a debatable issue to Dailytropica: membership.

Now, if you're an old player (around 2007-2009) you might remember when Poptropica didn't even have membership. You kids and your fancy membership and gold cards; back in my days we didn't know what a 'store' was. I'm kidding. But let's talk about it.

So, the question is: Is membership going too far?

Let's be honest, less than 4 dollars a month for pretty much everything on the game is a lot of bang for your buck. Everything in the store, AND exclusive members items. But a lot of Poptropicans are angry, arguing that Poptropica has became too involved in money...

It really hit players hard when 7 members became locked to members only. Poptropicans were outraged- even members said that the whole point of the game was to play the islands.

Most players are just genuinely upset and worried that Poptropica may be favoring their members more. What if it gets out of hand? What if the whole game becomes members-only?

But let's think about Poptropica's point of view. Poptropica isn't as POP-ular anymore. Most kids now are raging about iPhones and Instagram these days, not games like Poptropica. Advertisers aren't rushing as fast to get a spot in Poptropica. So this means that Poptropica is running a bit low on money, and they have to do something to keep up the game we love. We should understand that Poptropica isn't doing this for fun, but they're actually doing this for us.

In my opinion, membership isn't a bad thing for Poptropica. You don't have to buy it, and Poptropica is, for the most part, free. But I think there must be another way to get funds rather than making everything for members only.
